The Grassroots House Collective is a non-profit that collectively owns and operates an office building in Berkeley. This building at 2022 Blake Street houses important local organizations such as Copwatch, the Green Party, the Prisoner’s Literature Project, The International Solidarity Movement and the International Workers of the World. It has also had a historic role in many of the progressive struggles coming out of the East Bay.
Having a space to work is absolutely crucial to progressive organizers and in a high rent place like Berkeley workspace is an extremely rare commodity. The Grassroots House provides room for activists to work and has done so for decades. Named after the collectively run radical community newspaper, “Grassroots”, the house also was the original home of the Berkeley Tenants Union.
